This recent article from the Chronicle of Higher Education should be interesting on several levels: this issue of grading and evaluation is near and dear to my students’ hearts, as they have been subject to it for a minimum of 13 years to date. It also works as a fine example of creating an intelligent argument. And, while this is not an academic argument in that it provides no reference list, it uses signals of authority and clearly references ideas of others in ways that will make it easy to find those other sources. So it will serve an an example of the sort of argument they are aiming for with the major research essay assignment.
